How to Track Multiple Instagram Accounts for Unfollowers
Many creators, businesses, and social media managers run more than one Instagram account. Tracking unfollowers and follower health across multiple accounts introduces some additional complexity — but the core approach stays the same.
Here's how to manage it well.
The Challenge With Multiple Accounts
Each Instagram account has its own follower data, its own export, and its own growth trajectory. Tracking one account is straightforward. Tracking several requires:
- A system for keeping exports organized by account
- A way to compare data for each account separately
- A consistent schedule that covers all accounts
Without a system, exports from different accounts get mixed up, comparisons become unclear, and the data loses its usefulness.
Step 1: Organize Your Exports by Account
Create a simple folder structure that prevents confusion:
Instagram Exports/
account-one/
2026-03.zip
2026-04.zip
account-two/
2026-03.zip
2026-04.zip
brand-account/
2026-04.zip
Label each account folder clearly — use the Instagram username if that helps. Inside each folder, name exports by month and year so they're easy to compare.
This takes five minutes to set up and saves significant confusion later.
Step 2: Export Each Account Separately
Instagram exports are account-specific — each account needs its own export request.
For accounts you manage:
- Log into each account (or use Instagram's account switcher)
- Request the data export from each account's settings
- Download each ZIP file when it arrives
- Save it to the correct account folder
If you manage accounts for clients, you'll need them to either share the export file with you or request it themselves. You should never need their Instagram password — just the export file.
Step 3: Track Each Account in FollowGone
FollowGone supports multiple account tracking. Upload each account's export separately, and your dashboard gives you a separate view for each one.
This keeps the data clean: unfollowers for Account A don't mix with unfollowers for Account B. Each account has its own snapshot history, its own non-followers list, and its own trend data.
Setting a Review Schedule for Multiple Accounts
Reviewing multiple accounts doesn't have to mean multiple separate sessions. A simple batch workflow:
On the 1st of each month:
- Request exports for all accounts simultaneously
- When they arrive, download and sort them into the right folders
- Upload all of them to FollowGone in one session
- Do a single review session covering all accounts
This takes about 20-30 minutes for a handful of accounts and gives you a consistent monthly view across your entire portfolio.
Different Review Cadences for Different Accounts
Not all accounts need the same attention:
High-activity accounts (daily or near-daily posting, large following, commercial stakes): Monthly is a minimum. Consider bi-weekly exports.
Medium-activity accounts (a few posts per week, growing creator account): Monthly works well.
Low-activity accounts (personal account, infrequent posting): Quarterly is probably sufficient.
Set your export reminders to match each account's cadence — not everything needs to run on the same schedule.
Tips for Agency and Social Media Manager Use
If you're managing Instagram accounts professionally:
Get the export, not the password. Request that clients download and share their export file with you. This gives you the data you need without any credential sharing — protecting both you and them.
Document your process. Clients may rotate, and your tracking methodology should survive staff or client changes. Document which accounts you track, at what cadence, and where the exports are stored.
Use FollowGone's multi-account view for reporting. If you're delivering monthly reports, FollowGone's per-account dashboard provides a clean, visual summary you can share.
Separate personal from client data. Keep your own account exports in a separate workspace from client data. Cross-contamination creates confusion and potential privacy issues.
The Core Principle Doesn't Change
Whether you're tracking one account or ten, the approach is the same: download your data from Instagram, upload it to FollowGone, and analyze the changes over time. No Instagram logins. No credentials. Just your data, organized and compared.
FollowGone handles the multi-account workflow — upload your exports and get a clean view of each account's follower health.
